AWARENESS ACTIVITIES BY PROJECT NILGIRI TAHR IN COMMEMORATION WITH VAN MAHOTSAV WEEK CELEBRATION

As a part of The Van Mahotsav Week celebration 2024, Project Nilgiri Tahr conducted various outreach activities to different schools, college, and public initiatives to enrich the existing knowledge about the conservation significance of the State animal of Tamil Nadu (Nilgiri Tahr). The awareness programs were organized by respective District Forest Offices in coordination with innovation and incubation centres. The events were executed by                 Mr. N. Rajeshkumar, Senior Research Fellow, Project Nilgiri Tahr in coordination with respective field units and EDC. 

VALLANADU BLACK BUCK SANCTUARY

  •  Project Nilgiri Tahr conducted Awareness Programme in Vallanadu Black Buck Sanctuary for 30 School students from Government Model Higher Secondary School, Vallanadu on 01/07/2024. The session included trekking into Vallanadu Black Buck Sanctuary and awareness talk about the conservation of Nilgiri Tahr and its ecological importance etc. 

GOVERNMENT HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, MUDIVAITHANENDAL, THOOTHUKUDI

  • As a part of Van Mahotsav Week celebration 2024, various competitions like drawing, and elocution were conducted for 52 Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Mudivaithanendal at Thoothukudi on 02/07/2024 and the winners were felicitated. 

MUSLIM GIRLS HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, MELAPALAYAM, TIRUNELVELI.

  • Project Nilgiri Tahr conducted an awareness Programme to 100 school students of Muslim Girls Higher Secondary School, Melapalayam, Tirunelveli on 03/07/2024. Awareness session on Importance of Conservation of Nilgiri Tahr and Egyptian Vulture Conservation (Innovation and incubation centre, Tirunelveli) was delivered to the students and Nilgiri Tahr conservation Pledge was also taken by the students and teachers. Education materials and Pamphlets were also distributed during the program. 

THIRUVALLUVAR COLLEGE, PAPANASAM, TIRUNELVELI

  • On 05.07.2024, about 80 College Students of History Department, Thiruvalluvar College, Papanasam, Tirunelveli were sensitized on ecological importance of Nilgiri Tahr. On behalf of Van Mahotsav week, tree saplings were planted in college campus and Nilgiri Tahr conservation pledge was also taken by the students and Professors. 

MELA MAVADI (VFC), THIRUKURUNGUDI ECO RANGE, KALAKKAD MUNDANTHURAI TIGER RESERVE, TIRUNELVELI.

  • As a part of Van Mahotsav Week celebration 2024, a rally was organized on 06/07/2024, to create awareness about conservation of Nilgiri Tahr, involving active participation of 50 Village peoples from Mela Mavadi (VFC), Thirukurungudi Eco Range, KMTR, Tirunelveli. Nilgiri Tahr conservation Pledge has been taken by the Mela Mavadi village peoples. 

THATCHAMALAI GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOL, PECHIPARAI, KANNIYAKUMARI

  • On 10/07/2024, an awareness talk on Nilgiri Tahr conservation was delivered to 17 tribal students of Thatchamalai Primary School (Tribal School) in Kaani tribal settlement. Awareness materials like books, pamphlets, flyer etc were distributed and Nilgiri Tahr conservation Pledge was also taken by the students.

GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL, KODAYAR, KANYAKUMARI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

  • As a part of Van Mahotsav Week celebration 2024, Project Nilgiri Tahr conducted awareness session delivered to students of 6th to 10th standard at Government Secondary School, Kodayar, Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary (Tribal School) on 12/07/2024. Totally 40 students were participated. Nilgiri Tahr conservation Pledge has been taken.
